Mid session strength training in Edinburgh

The Challenge with Strength Training

Knowing you should lift is the easy part.

You know you need to get stronger. Maybe your physio said it. Maybe your doctor did. Or you read one article too many about muscle loss over and decided it was time to prioritise strength.

Whatever the reason, you’ve reached the same conclusion as most people who end up here: you should be doing strength training in Edinburgh.

Then comes the harder bit. You walk into a gym full of racks and dumbbells with no idea where to start. Or you copy a programme off YouTube that was written for someone with a completely different body and history.

You do it for a few weeks and you can’t tell whether it’s working, whether your form is right, or whether you’re one bad rep away from putting your back out.

Most people either guess their way through strength training. Or they end up putting it off for another year.

At G2G, nobody expects you to already know what you’re doing. A qualified strength and conditioning coach writes your plan, teaches you every lift in it, and is on the gym floor whenever you train.

With G2G, you’ll get strong at your own pace, in a private gym in Edinburgh where you don’t have to queue for equipment.

The Benefits

What strength training actually does for you.

Strength training means lifting weights that challenge your muscles, following a plan that gradually asks a little more of them over time. Your body adapts to that ask. Muscles get stronger, bones get denser, and joints get better supported. More importantly, you feel better.

That matters more as you get older, not less. From your mid-thirties onwards you gradually lose muscle unless you’re actively training it, and that loss is behind a lot of what people write off as simply ageing. The good news is the process works in reverse at any age. Several of our members are stronger in their sixties than they were in their fifties.

It also carries into everything else you do. Runners who lift pick up fewer injuries. Golfers hit the ball further. And day-to-day life gets easier, whether that’s the stairs, the garden or a grandchild who wants carried.

You don’t need to be fit to start. You need a plan that starts where you are, and someone to check you’re doing it right.

Boris got more than three times stronger and lost over 20kg while doing it. This wasn’t done through programme but a whole lifestyle change. This is his story in his own words.

An honest comparison

Going it alone vs. classes vs. G2G Coaching.

Plenty of people get strong on their own, and a good class will get you fitter. Here's how the three actually compare when the goal is strength that lasts.

On Your Own Classes & Bootcamps G2G Coaching
Your plan A programme from YouTube or an app The same session as everyone else Written for you, and yours to train
Technique The mirror and guesswork One coach split across the room A coach on the floor, checking when it counts
Progression Repeat it until you stall The class moves on whether you're ready or not Reviewed and progressed as your body adapts
If something hurts Google it and hope Scale it down or sit it out Built into your plan, with physio input
A year from now Probably still guessing Fitter, but with no plan of your own Running your own training with confidence
Cost a month £25 to £40 a budget gym membership £90 to £180 for fixed class times £139 to £258 train as often as your plan calls for

WHY G2G Coaching

Strength training in Edinburgh with the support you need to make it stick.

Qualified S&C coaches

Every coach here is a qualified strength and conditioning professional. There's one on the gym floor every session for a technique check or a quiet word if something looks off. Nobody counts reps at you.

A plan that keeps moving

Your programme progresses at the rate your body can actually take. When you adapt, it changes. When life gets in the way, it adjusts rather than falls apart.

Room to lift

Racks, platforms and bars without the queue. Sessions are capped, so the equipment your programme calls for is free when you need it.

Every level, honestly

Our members range from complete beginners to people in their seventies, and the coaching adjusts to every one of them. There are no mirrors here, and nobody performing for them.

FAQs

What you're probably wondering.

Am I too old to start strength training?

No, you’re not. Muscle and bone respond to training at any age. It’s never too late to start. Our members range from their twenties to their seventies. And many of our older members are stronger now than they were decades ago. Your programme starts from wherever you are.

I’m not fit enough to start. Should I get in shape first?

This comes up a lot, and the answer is no. Strength training is how you get in shape, not something you earn the right to do afterwards. Your first sessions are built around learning movements at a level your body can handle, and it builds from there.

Will lifting weights make me bulky?

Not by accident. Building visible muscle mass takes years of deliberate, specific training and eating. A general strength programme makes you stronger and more capable long before it changes how you look.

Do I need any experience with weights?

No. Most of our members had never followed a strength programme before joining. Your coach teaches you every lift in your plan from scratch, and checks your technique as you go.

How often should I do strength training?

For most people, two or three sessions a week is plenty to make steady progress. Your coach will build the plan around the time you actually have rather than the time you wish you had.

What if I’ve got an injury or a condition?

This is where G2G Coaching is at its best. We’ve got years of experience working with injuries and chronic conditions. Our coaches work directly with our physio partners. If something flares up, the physio tells your coach, your programme gets adjusted, and rehab is built into your training rather than added on top at extra cost.

How much does strength training in Edinburgh cost?

A budget gym is £25 to £40 a month, but you’re on your own. Classes run £90 to £180. A personal trainer in Edinburgh costs £160 to £320 a month for one session a week. G2G membership starts at £139 a month, which covers a personal programme, a private gym, and a coach on the floor every session you train.
